Herbal Remedies for Stress and Anxiety

Experiencing anxiety occasionally is a normal part of life. But sometimes people have very frequent anxiety and they persistently worry and fear about various things in everyday situations. People suffering from anxiety often have sudden episodes of panic, these episodes can occur within a few minutes of getting triggered. These feelings of anxiety are difficult to manage and interfere with daily routine. Anxiety usually occurs because of stress due to certain reasons. Anxiety can easily be controlled by knowing symptoms and some remedies.

Symptoms

It is difficult to control your anxiety, but once you know about some common symptoms of anxiety it is quite easy to control. These signs and symptoms include:

  • Constant sweating
  • Having trouble sleeping
  • Trembling in hands and feet
  • Feeling weak, tired or restless
  • Having an increased heart rate
  • Wanting to avoid things that trigger anxiety
  • Constantly feeling restless, nervous or tensed
  • Having difficulty breathing or breathing rapidly
  • Experiencing stomach issues or gastrointestinal problems
  • Feeling like you are in impending danger, panic or are meant to be doomed
  • Overthinking everything and worrying a lot instead of thinking about the present or having trouble concentrating.

Herbal remedies

Kava: Use of kava for treating anxiety works for some people. But it is a short term treatment for anxiety. It is suggested that kava should be taken as directed or prescribed by the doctor. Use of kava for anxiety might not suit people suffering from liver disease so it is better to consult a health care provider before using this remedy. Pregnant women or women breastfeeding should avoid intake of kava.

Passion flower: It is discovered in some clinical trials that passion flower can help with anxiety. In many medicines passion flower is combined with other herbs, making it difficult to differ in their qualities. Passion flower is safe when taken as directed by the doctor for a short period of time. According to some studies it can cause sleepiness, dizziness and confusion.

Valerian: According to research, people who use valerian have less anxiety and stress. In other studies, people using valerian reported no benefit at all. Valerian is safe to take as prescribed for a short time. It not only helps in calming anxiety, but it is also known to help with insomnia, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), menopause symptoms, and headaches.

Chamomile: Many researches have shown that using chamomile can reduce stress and it is safe to take it in small quantities. If a person is on blood thinning medicine they should avoid taking chamomile especially in high dosage, as it may raise the risk of bleeding. Some people drink chamomile tea as a daily routine as it is also said to help with digestion.

Lavender: Some research shows that aromatherapy with lavender can reduce anxiety. Lavender is also said to help people suffering from high blood pressure as it helps lowering the blood pressure. It has the ability to calm the nerves, which is the reason it suggested as a remedy for anxiety. It also has additional benefits of reducing pain and inflammation.

Lemon balm: Some studies show that lemon balm can reduce some of the symptoms of anxiety, such as extreme excitement and worry. Lemon balm is safe to take for a short period of time. There has not been enough research conducted to know whether lemon balm is safe to take during pregnancy or when breastfeeding, so it is strictly suggested to not use it.

To conclude, it is safe to say that almost everyone in today’s life is suffering from anxiety, as there is a lot of stress in the day to day life of a common man. Some people don’t even know that they are suffering from anxiety and how to control it. This blog provides them knowledge about their signs and symptoms and further guides them on how to control anxiety with the help of herbal remedies. But it is suggested to consult a healthcare provider for any other issue.
